Camera Movement

Basic camera movements:

Pan

Camera pivots laterally (right to left, or left to right).

Tilt

Camera pivots horizontally (up and down).

Dolly/Truck

Camera moves laterally, or forward and backward.

Zoom

The camera does not move, but the focal length of the lens changes.

Camera Shots

Wide shot (WS)

A wide angle view that stablishes the scene.

Medium Shot (MS)

A middle distance shot that shows the main subject, usually full or 3/4 body.

Close Shot (CS or CU)

A closeup shot-- if shooting a person, the typical example is a head shot.

Extreme Close Shot

Detail view-- for example, the camera might focus on a person's expression or hands.

Cutaway

A view from another part of the scene that does not include the main subject.
