Sara Ahrendtsen's Performance Videos

Grocery Shopping

Family Tree

For these videos, I tried to incorporate some of the elements we saw in the videos from class. I used the idea of storytelling through one character in Family Tree and used the idea of doing mundane and everyday things in Grocery Shopping. For Grocery Shopping, I wanted to show how everyday things have become things to complete, rather than things to do. We now live in a society that is all about getting everything done, rather than enjoying the process and the experience. In Family Tree, I was trying to capture a simple version of my parent's lives. I covered my face or only showed parts because I wanted to show that I am creations of my parents and the events in their lives. At the end I show all of me because all of the events in our lives have defined and made up who I am.

  1. Sara, I really thought you did a great job on these videos. I really liked how you speed up the process of going to the grocery store to give it alittle more action. the only hting that i might suggest is a way to conclude it, like showing the cashregistar or leaving.

Your second video was my favorite. I liked the concept of telling the narrative in a somewhat abstract way with props representing different characters and the signs. i also like how it was both general and abstract because the story could apply to anyone (when you use the words boy and girl) but really it is unique because it is personal and true. your concept was very clear and it ended well so i really thought this was your best.

  2. Sara, your first video is playful and unique. We found that the camera angle you used, attached to the cart, made the footage extremely interesting. We enjoyed how you took the ordinary task of shopping and sped it up to your viewer. You made the act of shopping more enjoyable and with the fast pace cart, the performance video has more liveliness.

Your second performance video also had a great concept. We thought it was more of the unique one out of the two because it depicted a different type of storytelling. We liked that you used a lot of visual props to help narrate the story. We do think that you could expand upon this idea because it is a great start. Such as maybe adding a few more events leading to that happily ever after, which results in you!

    Very nicely done! :)
