Morgan's Still Life

  1. Morgan,

    Two really good videos!

Very original collaboration. I particularly like the fact that you are combining the real (view out the window) and fantasy (the drawing). The way the drawing takes the entire frame, and in parts covers the entire rectangle with ink, is visually effective. I also like the little storyline-- there are allusions to nearly magical birdlike creatures, fire, and water-- and playing it backwards and forwards creates interesting play between destruction and creation. Very Kentridge.... I think there are possibilities for variations in continuing the story, or perhaps adding another chapter (another window, another scene) or perhaps another video that plays with the idea of a fantastical drawing on top of a real scene (it would be fascinating if something was moving in the "real" scene...)

Still life... simple, and visually effective. I like the three distinct shapes, and the fact that they are totally random objects (connected perhaps by having a past life as a painting or drawing? The framing is very icely done, and I like the fact that one object comes in from outside the frame. I also very much like the segment where you change perspective and zoom in on a detail of the scene. I think there is potential to continue this animation, perhaps with more detail views, or a complete change in perspective (top view?). Technically, you might try to darken these images so that the black background appears black(er).

We thought that you both did a really cool job with your "Graveyard" animation! Great concept and very creative with the window scenes. We liked that you were able to transform a graveyard into something more artsy and lively! :)

Morgan, we really enjoyed watching your still life animation! We liked the title that you came up with. Maybe you could add a little more to the end of your animation. It seemed a bit incomplete, but other than that very abstract and creative! :)

  3. We really liked the way the colors and the lighting worked together, it produced a really cool image. We also thought that the character movement was very on point. we liked how abstract it was, however we think you could have added more! Possibly create more of a story line to follow. Again, we thought technically it was really well done.
